Hi Jeri. Thank you very much for your thoughts on the painting. The suggestions definitely make sense. Dis this one several years back now and it now is varnished, framed and on the wall.
Jim I think the yellow bush could be taken out entirely and the painting would stand. I don't agree with moving it to the right (no offense to Patricia-just my thoughts) because it would pull your eye to the contrast between it and the dark of those trees and bushes too much. What I would do is create a less round shape of that mound in the immediate foreground on the left. It is too perfect of a shape and would be more interesting if the negative space around it was more irregular. Does this make sense? Otherwise, this is an incredible eye catching scene. I love the use of your color and values. Great depth and lighting. Makes me want to bask on that shoreline!
Thanks Rita. Things seemed to come together in this one.
Beautiful painting, Jim, well done. I really like the colours, aerial perspective, reflections, light and shadows.
Hi Patricia,
Yes, that would be a good adjustment - provide for good navigation through the scene. Good observation.
Jim,
Personally I would leave the dead tree where it is because it blends into the background.
I would move the bright yellow bush over to the right so that it's on the sweet spot. Moving the bush to a place of its own, will help move the eye to the back of the painting to connect with the yellow trees and then over to the left with the other yellow foliage and then complete the circle with the foreground grass.
Thanks Deodanda.
It might have been better to place the dead tree farther to the right so not so centered and this would have also permitted a better view of the stream extending back into the scene.
I agree with George, this painting also has lots of beautiful values and detail. Just gorgeous!!
Thank you George.
Very good contrast, reflections, light and shadows. Well done.!
