I gave up on the larger version with the banjo!  I felt like I was re-working the same problem over and possibly alternating between 2 "wrong" solutions in one problem area....like a painting version of being lost and walking in circles.  It felt pretty good to cut it from the canvas so I can re-stretch it with new canvas!  It's nice to be the own boss of our work and we get to decide if we want to continue or to stop!

This bright yellow looks very brave on his face! Very nice expression of the eyes!

This is the 3rd portrait I have ever attempted.  It's SO much harder than landscapes and still life!  Kudos to those of you who specialize in portraits!  This is just the study for a larger painting that shows him playing his banjo.  the larger one has been the most challenging painting I've ever done.  That last 5% is driving me crazy!  Sadly, because I've worked at it so long, it lacks the energy of this study.
