Yes, Dottie, I have the same problem. When I paint for myself I feel more free. I don't do many commisions.

I also like to change the subject of my paintings now and then, animals, landscapes, buildings, abstracts, flowers. But animals are my favourite :)

Good luck with your German shepherds, I am looking forward to see them when they are finished.

Have a nice weekend, Angeline.

Thanks again, Angeline.  The reason this painting came off a little better than many of the others is that it was done just for me, not as a commission.  It makes a huge difference in the way I paint, whether or not someone is "watching over my shoulder" as I paint, that is.  I wish I didn't have to do commissions because I truly think I could become a better painter without them.  In fact, I think they hamper my ability to progress.  I've got a couple of German shepherds, a commission, that I'll list as soon as they're finished.

This one is a beauty too! The eyes and the fur are painted very well!

The eyes in this painting are beautifully done. The personality of the dog shines through.

Thanks so much, Kim.  I'm fairly new here and haven't posted much but hope to become more active soon.  It looks like a great place to learn and share.  I have a lot to learn, I'm afraid, as I'm completely self-taught -- except for the couple of dvd's I've gotten from Richard.  But maybe someday I'll have enough knowledge to share what I know with others.  In the meantime, I'll continue to paint and learn all I can.  I love your artwork, by the way.

Hi, Diane.  Thank you so much!  I use acrylics and am generally happy using them but plan to give the water-soluble oils a try when I can find the time.  Acrylics are a pain to blend.  But the main reason I continue to use them is I'm impatient and don't want to take the time to wait for the oils to dry.
