Thank you Þorgrímur for your helpful comments and encouragement. I keep looking at the picture and think about adding a bush/bushes (probably smaller ones???) but haven't figured out how and where to put them in so that the edge of the meadow would still look farther away. Not sure what color would work either. Maybe I'll let the painting dry and experiment with it in a few days. If you or anyone else have any ideas along this line, run them by me!

Hi Linda.

I like your painting. I think you are right on the money with the goal of the workshop. As I understand it should be a play with color with regards to saturation. Making your focal point more saturated while everything else becomes more grayed out. Your foreground is quite saturated while your background mountains and sky are more subdued. I think this is exactly what the goal of the workshop is. This composition is quite simple and serene.

The nice thing about Richards painting is that he uses the bushes from the photo, which make for a very strong focal point. They seem to be the most saturated element in the painting, while everything else is downplayed from there. You could try and add those in to strengthen your composition. But of course this is only a suggestion.

But I have to say I am really impressed with your painting since you have only been less then two years :)

Would appreciate your feedback regarding composition, whether I met the goal of the workshop, or any other ideas.  I've been painting less than 2 years so need all the help I can get!!!
