Thanks Carly; those are all eucalyptus trees and the brush is scrub oak and madrone with some manzanita.  This is in the open space in Marin County, CA.   Stu

I love this painting ... for some weird reason it reminds me of back home... in Zimbabwe, where I was born.

Susie, I'm not surprised he's moving out of the Email box: complete artist has taken over my computer.  All the non-artists think we're nut cases (maybe they're right).  I would never share Email with my wife.  She throws stuff away all the time and I am a total packrat--that would not work well.  She did, however, save the picture of me that you see here, and found it for me so I could post it and not look like mystery-man; it was one of my better pictures and she said she was saving it in case I died; I told her I had no immediate plans for that.  I think Richard's next competition will be a backlit scene with infused light.  I let you know when we'll be in Chicago later because my wife is always the left brain person on travel and I have to get exact dates from her.  As to winning a RR painting, I think that Debby Bader will get the nod for best from Richard; you saw his short critique of her painting ("wow") and you can tell from his stuff how much he likes pushed color.  I am not a color pusher--out here (Northern CA) they call themselves "colorists"--there are a bunch of them that trace their roots back through the school of art in Provincetown, MA and Henry Hensche and Hawthorne.  I like it but I don't see it when I paint and don't do it.  My style is realism, sometimes loose and sometimes pretty tight.  I really like my painting and think I nailed that scene with a loose painterly style (much more so than all of my urban stuff and most of my landscapes); but it could maybe be more exciting with some push of the foreground and midground colors such as what Debby did so well.  But we will see.  As you can see, if you read my post to Debby, she just raised the bar for the rest of us with her stunning late entry.  Have fun in Georgia.  Take a look at the painting that Deb Hill just sold; see if you can paint something like that down there if you get the right cloudy sky--stunning painting.  Stu

stu - good morning...today my hubby announced he's getting his own email address!!...i think all this workshop stuff is starting to overwhelm him but i think it's so much fun!!  i can have my own email address through my FASO website and i'm starting to think that might be a good idea!...for sure i will be taking my paints and laptop to georgia - usually i paint in the morning and we golf in the afternoon..we're having guests for a few days so i may be a bit cramped for time but i agree...posting early enough to get lots of feedback is the best!!  do you have any idea what the next venture will be? - i think it may have something to do with warms and cools...as for chicago...we love that place! - our place in valparaiso (we're heading there today to take down the dock) - is an hour away and has long been a home base for summer trips to wrigley and shopping and steaks....i'm in the process of doing a skyline as a wedding gift for the daughter of a good friend...and most likely will do another for the son of a good friend...oh the money we save when we can paint a gift!!!!...and you are so lucky to head there before christmas...i have buddies who make a point of heading up at that time of year - the window decorations are so festive...let me know when you'll be there though i doubt we'll be able to make it this year...with davey's schedule and holiday plans with friends and family, december is filling up fast...gotta get cracking...lots to do before we head out!..good luck with the voting - i have a feeling you're going to win a painting!!!!

Susie, have fun and take your paints so you can start on the next competition.  Getting something in early is very rewarding in feedback.  Also take your computer or ipad along so you don't miss out.  We'll figure out a time to meet in person.  Do you ever go to Chicago?  My wife and I are going there for several days just before Christmas weekend and driving up to my son's in Milwaukee from Chicago.  Our plans were Institute of Art (my favorite American art museum), shopping for Xmas on Michican Avenue, and some good steaks.  By the way I was born in Chicago, and it really is my favorite American city to visit.  I would not pick that time of year if we were not spending Xmas with my son, but that is what we're doing.  Let me know if you have any interest in meeting us there.  And no, my wife is not a very good golfer either.  The invitation to visit Superior California still stands (that's what I call it since I grew up in Southern California).  I'm giving out all my likes this evening and I'm sure many of them will be the same as yours.  Stu
