The translucent effect was obtained in part I think because I did not use any white in the yellow colors representing the meat of the lemon. The other influence is that the front of the slice is a darker value than the back. There may be other things that make an object appear transparent or translucent. Maybe some others could share their input.

How did you get the light looking like its shining though the orange? Strikingly viberant.
