Thank you Barbara for you interest and kind words.

Yes Hazel I took Johannes class on painting from photos and now taking the class on painting trees. Both classes were very helpful. I disagree with him on values. I am old school and feel you need  darks to create light so my darks go into the 8 - 9 values to create effects..

Hi again Tammy, This one took about 5 days with many rub outs and restarts. I have been taking a class on the net over on wet canvas by Johannes Vloothuis a Canadian artist http://improvemypaintings.com/. I have been re-inspired to do more landscapes. You will find the oils to be your best friend if you are not afraid to rub out and start over. Helps to gesso a cardboard box and make thumbnail paintings. Between now and Monday I will try to show you  a photo of how I mix up the paint on my pallet to do thumbnails. Have a great weekend. Jim

I would love to view more of your work, you have reached the place in your art that I would like to get to. Just wondering how long this one took you to do. You say that you ar mostly a figure painter Jim, that is an area I havent even attempted, just pencil drawings, nervous to try in oils (my preferred medium) because I will probably ruin the canvas. Feel free to pass along any tips with all of your years of experience, especially on the 2 landscapes you have posted.
