Thanks Ann. I'm going to try that combination next still life. I just finished one without using any Alizarin and used mostly all warm colors like transparent oxide red, transparent earth orange (gamblin) and viridian for the background. As soon as it is dry I will post it.

A big smile and thanks for your encouragement Robert,Laura, Cristina,Jeri and Candi. To answer your question Jeri, I used a mixture of Ult Blue/Aliz Cr to make a dark translucent purple and then combined it with Transparent orange oxide. These mixes can go from dark cool to dark warm and are slightly transparent for the background. I paint to whole area thinly then wipe out the basic shapes. Let it dry and refine the objects. The photo doesn't show the depth of the background it looks a little muggy in the photo but instead the lighter areas are the canvas glowing thru. Long answer, sorry.

This was a request from a local winery for a traditional still life to hang in the tasting room
