Left-Handedness and How It Impacts One's Painting Process

Posted on October 5, 2013 at 3:52 12 Comments

**I would be interested in hearing from others who are left-handed, and how it affects them as a painter.**

It's amazing to me after just returning to painting with education via video's to realize the added difficulty I've run into following right-handed painters and applying it to my process. I don't think this occurred to me when I was at our local college learning initially, years ago, for we were pretty much left to our own devices.

People read right to left, and artists…

"Educosis"

This is from Robert Genn: "...There's a wide range of reasons for blockage. One of the most frequent is the buildup of bad habits in basic techniques learned in lesser workshops or from hit-and-miss self-teaching. Another source of blockage is what we call "Educosis," that is, too much theoretical knowledge with very little actual easel-time. These folks often hate what they do and abandon early. Still others have issues of self-esteem, self-loathing, imposter syndrome and guilt..." THAT'S…

Thank you, Carolyn, for the friend request. Lately, I have been in and out of the workshop due to my life getting in the way, but I try to do the monthly challenge. Sometimes I succeed and sometimes not. I am struggling to get this months painting done on time. Wish me luck.
Your florals are gorgeous. Is that your favorite subject to paint?

Hi Carolyn, Just letting you know that I'm thinking of you and how disappointed you must feel in missing out on being part of this project.  Do reconsider it even though you are undoubedly very busy getting ready for house changes, as when you actually start on the slice, it doesn't take as long as you might think.

Anyway, I hope all is well with you considering all that has been happening in your life this year.

All the best - Ruth Reid

Carolyn,

I joined the February workshop and I have a question for you. When I joined there was no payment request.  Is this normal?  Does Richard keep your initial payment info and just charge you automatically?

Thanks

Well, I can't do a plein air painting at this moment.  Dad has my french easel and I am only set up to paint indoors at this moment.  I may have to wait till next month or paint his photo.  Haven't made my mind up.
