Hi Everyone,
I'm new to this site and thought I would give you a brief profile on myself. I live on acreage in the Gold Coast Hinterland, Australia and have been painting on and off (mostly off due to working full time) for the last 25 odd years. I have been retired for the last few years, so I now have a lot more time on my hands and want to focus on painting, which to me is a lifetime pursuit. My first painting lessons were in oils, which I enjoyed very much at the time, and then I went on to taking lessons in watercolour at the Watercolour Society of Queensland. I attend painting workshops whenever possible and have another one coming up in a weeks time, which I’m looking forward to very much.
My husband and I travel a lot in our caravan so we spend a couple of months each year on the road in the Australian outback somewhere. It’s great for collecting photographic material, but I haven’t yet succeeded in doing any decent paintings while on the road, unfortunately.
I have also ventured into acrylics and took some lessons while in South Australia on our travels. So I am happy to paint in oils, acrylics or watercolour, but I guess my favourite medium is watercolour. I also love bright colours and am definitely a colourist.
Unfortunately I’m also a great procrastinator. It takes me a long time to actually put some paint on that white paper!! Even when I have set myself up to paint, I find myself stalling all of the time and avoiding that paper or canvas. I’m hoping that joining this site and following Richard’s lessons, will help me to actually get started and do some painting rather than thinking or reading about it. I’m looking forward to it and to joining the online community.
Cheers
Colleen

Hi Eleanor, Great to hear that you have been drawing. I downloaded the drawing course from Richard's Art Academy site before we left to go away and have been drawing too. It all helps a great deal.
Hi Eleanor, How are things going? I'm wondering if you have managed to do any painting lately? We are away on holidays at the seaside right now, but I did manage to do a watercolour this afternoon although it's not finished yet. It's certainly nothing to write home about, but I'm pleased I made the effort to pick up a brush. Off for a drive into the countryside tomorrow, so hopefully I'll take some nice photos to turn into paintings sometime.
Look forward to hearing from you when you get a chance.
Thanks Eleanor. Great to hear from you. Watching art videos is one of my favourite pastimes. But I agree that it's probably another form of procrastination. Still, I do learn from watching how other people paint.
Quite early here so no kids up yet. It's most likely going to be my one small moment of peace today. Time to pack the caravan over the next couple of days and I'm very much looking forward to our holiday. And yes, my camera will definitely be coming along for the ride.
Hi Eleanor,
Lovely to hear from you. I do hope that you managed to get your studio organised and that paint brush got a workout! I'm pleased to say that I did manage to do some painting this weekend. But I have to confess that it is because I attended a two day painting workshop where we were really pushed out of our comfort zone. Still, I enjoyed it very much and feel that I learnt a lot. Not sure that my paint brush will be picked up too soon though as I have my daughter visiting from interstate and also a new baby granddaughter, and 6 year old granddaughter all staying over for a few days. Then on the weekend we are off to the beach on holidays for a couple of weeks. Although I do hope to do some painting while away. Time will tell. Anyway, good luck with your painting and please keep in touch. I hope to post a couple of my paintings on this site, as soon as I get the time to do so.
HI Eleanor, Thank you for your lovely post. It sounds like we are like two peas in a pod with our painting experience and procrastination and finding ways to do everything else but painting. Plus we both joined this site around the same time. I think it's time that we both picked up a paintbrush and put it to work!
Hi Ann, Thank you for your welcome. Yes, I can't believe my first post on this site was on the wrong page. Never mind, I have re-posted on the "Introduce Yourself" page in the Forum and am now finding my way around the website a bit better. It certainly does look like a friendly place to be and I'm looking forward to learning a lot from Richard and everyone else who posts there photos and comments. I'm also looking forward to producing some paintings and posting them on the site.
