"Coffee at the Cove" 18x24" Oil on Canvas by Richard Robinson
My painting spot, about 9:30am.
Spent about 5 hours on this one today - went out for a surf at Waipu Cove but the surf was too big for me so I went to plan B and got the easel out instead. The trickiest part of this for me was simplifying the shapes. I'd just given a lesson last night about perspective drawing so that was helpful today. Just gotta remember to keep measuring those angles with the brush because they never stop trying to trick you.

Nobody but you thought to make a piece of art about this simple in road coffe shop!
That really is the ultimate road trip vehicle. Amazing painting. I really like the color temperature and value changes in the platform and planters.
LOL.
I have one made of Lego, and I bought the modern version to be my paint-mobile. Good old German Engineering.
Great lesson. I understand and can do perspective, but measuring those angles comes a bit harder.
So, Richard, just guessing here, but since that red and white VW van seems to appear with some regularity, is it by any chance your ride of choice?
The sketch..........simplifying the shapes, intellectually I have understanding.............wish it were possible for me to be capable of doing. It is thrilling to be able to follow you on your fascinating journey.............:-)
