Plein Air Painting Workshop at Palm Cove, Australia

"Palm Cove" 12x12" Oil on Canvasboard by Richard Robinson

Just got back from camping up the East Coast of Australia for 3 weeks with the family. The trip ended in Palm Cove where I gave a 2 day plein air painting workshop to 12 students. (Hi guys!) Most of them hadn't painted outdoors before and as always it was a bit of a shock to the system as they battled the wind and sun and bugs and curious spectators. Some I'm sure were put off plein air painting for life and a crazy few were inspired to do more! Well good on them all for coming out and giving it a go - a real fun bunch of people. Thanks guys.

Here are some more photos from the workshop...

The Palm Cove is one of yours usual great paintings made in plain air. I like it very much and it does represent a guide for my future works. This painting is so simple at a first glance and for a non-instructed person doesn't represent a think. But for a sensible artist like me or like all fallows I had the opportunity to know through your smart site it represents a masterpeace. I wish I could do same but I know it is not easy. The way you obtained thouse far mountains by two-three brushstrokes is something which not every painter can do. Beautifull descreat atmosphere! And the palm tree! Fantastic! I am sure that for you every part of it took time to decide about color and light-shadow play/game/value.etc. Unbeleavable artwork!
