That's just too funny. I guess you better hold onto that brush. I'll just have to give that a try. You never know what works. My sister used to have a cat that would always steal her paint brushes and she'd find them hidden in corners of her closet. Do you have a cat?:)))

Bob Ross used to do a painting class on PBS. He died years ago, but his son has since taken over the broadcast. He just threw out these landscapes and everything worked. I tried it once and it was a disaster! But he did his follage with a fan brush and it bent to form the shapes that I see in your painting. He made it look so simple, but when I tried it, once again, I couldn't get it to work. Yours is wonderful and so soft.

Thank you so much for your lovely comments. I was reading the other comments to you and I bought Richards color videos also, but, perhaps because I'm so dyslexic, I just can't think of chrome and hues or cools and warms when I'm painting. I know it's very important when doing portraits. I just love color and keep trying to find new ones:) I enjoy the subtle colors in your landscapes very much.

Hi Ro, Lovely hearing from you, it is hard to keep up with everyone, but i do love your emails. This computer takes time and i need to paint, and not watch too much videos LOL. I joined cause of your email, telling me about an artist called Carol. I have seen many of Richards videos he is really good. I have joined a couple of sites, but it really is time consuming, and with real life getting in the way, and my own art, I have to actually stay away a little, hard, as it is so addictive. LOL
Nice to have you back
Maylon

Roena, thanks for commenting on my painting. I've just reviewed your work and it seems to me you're already on the right path to impressionism. Your drawings are also quite nice. I especially like the stag. I've just finished a bride and groom portrait and I'm more than ready to paint something less stressful.

I see what you are saying. I The shadows look fine to me though :-)... But if the shadows are not dark enough, it won't give the dramatic feeling that it does now. I'm not sure if you make a shadow "live" in a painting, it would not take away the drama-ness of it?

Hi Ro,
Yes, I do see these colors in nature about me too. As artists describing a scene, we have to choose which color, temperature & chrome to use, to allow them to sit within the painting without fighting for their place, but to be seen as a whole. I hope I'm making sence here - I know what I'm trying to say.
At the moment with many farming crops coming forth, I am seeing a variety of greens - blue-greens, yellow-greens, greens that have a certain amount of red etc. The variety is endless. As we approach Spring, new growth on trees and bushes are also providing a vast array of colors too.
I am always going on about these minute details that never cease to amaze me, I just love it! :-))

Hi Ro,
Thanks for your comments on "Worn Out". To answer your question regarding the inspiration - We used to have a 44 gallon drum to burn rubbish, before we started compositing, as it was just sitting empty, Steve used to hang the horseshoes on it and his shoeing gear beside it for convenience. All the old shoes were put there after they had been taken off. Of course, they mounted up after time. One day a friend challanged me to do a Still-Life: thought it time to think outside the square on this matter, as a result I completed a whole heap of paintings, one normally does not associate with Still-Life.
BTW - I'm with Lynda - I would love to be travelling again. :-))

What a life! Travelling .... the soles of my feet are itching at the thought. One of my aims is to travel Europe in a motorhome, but for now it's heads down and working to get there while we care for my aged Mum. I'm hoping to open my own gallery/working studio within the next couple of months .... so looking forward to that too! Take care. Lynda
