Thank you, Richard - this looks like a wonderful forum, and I really apppreciate you having a look at my blog. I've been stuck lately , doing terrible work, and I hope that this is what I need to teach me what I'm doing wrong. So far I've quickly watched the first 3 videos, and I love the idea of pre-mixing colors. Does anyone have any hints about painting bare winter trees? I get lost between too much detail and not enough....

Hello Richard, I'd like to thank you for offering your painting lessons online. I love your style of painting and the way you've mastered landscape painting. So many of the tips you've given in the lessons have opened my eyes to 1) what I need to do to improve my approach and 2) things that I already do that work but I didn't know "why". Your explanations really make sense. I look forward to each new video lesson. This blog is also a great place for artists to share their experience. So glad I found about your lessons. Have a great day!

Hi Richard

It's my pleasure having you on my website, as for being humbled…it is I who is humbled by your painting skills, I only wish I could paint like you, you have a style I would love to emulate… and, by the sound of it so would thousands of other people.

Keep up the good work Richard

Best regards

Hi Richard

Happy New Year!!

January 5th and this is the first time I have sat down and actually watched your video on colour theory…very informative. I am an art tutor (I teach adults) and next week sees the start of the new art classes (enrolment). This time around I am going to concentrate on colour, after watching your DVD now I have some ideas on how I will make my Scheme of Work up.

Last term I started introducing colour mixing into the lessons hoping it would encourage students to think more about what painting is all about (not just wanting to paint from their own images). I thought it would not go down too well as sometimes it is very difficult to get students to work on projects at home, however it proved very popular with most of the students (but some students still reluctant to work at home).

I also do workshops and demonstrations in various art clubs and societies including art shops and other businesses in the North West on the United Kingdom and Wales, I get most of this work through an agent but now I am getting more work from the owner of a large art shop in Liverpool. When I am demonstrating I usually keep my palette fairly simple i.e three primary colours plus white. Many of the people who turn up at the demonstrations are very interested to see what you can achieve with a limited palette, and I must say, this in some respects is down to you Richard.

Richard, I got your Master Class video bundle for my birthday just recently and just want you to know that I love the videos. I found your website earlier this year and have had the videos on my wish list for some time. I have found videos like yours are a great way to learn and be inspired when you don't have the time to be tutored by someone in person. I was also excited when I learned that you were also once a graphic designer, so it's neat that I can relate to you in that way also. Thanks so much for the time you've taken to put out these great lessons. Love you work and style!

I have a few questions though if you wouldn't mind answering... For one I was wondering what texture do you prefer on your canvas (as in Medium, Smooth, Extra Smooth)? Another question I had was, will you be doing a video in the future that tells what supplies and tools you recommend to use with oil painting - as in brushes, mediums etc... ? There are so many brushes to choose from that I get lost wondering what's the better brush.

Again, thanks for all that you do.

Hello Richard. Thank you for allowing to visit you at your lovely home last Thursday. it was great to meet Helen and of course your little boy not fogeting Milo of course. I love to be able to picture people in their own surroundings when I am writing on this great contraption that tends to take over our lives. THE COMPUTER!! Athol was so impressed with your frame with the dowels that holds your paintings that I am now the proud owner of one and may I say a much tidier studio. Thank you.

Hi Richard! - Fancy getting a message from you! - The master himself! Lol!

The paintings I'm doing at the moment are glazed, using oils. - I'm trying to be methodical, and get to know each painting style thoroughly, before I move onto the next. I finished the third lot of these classes last night. - The next one will be ala prima photo realism. Then I'll be doing plein air a la you!

- I wish there were more hours in the day and I could paint using all three styles and be an expert in all of them in one day!!!

I find your paintings SO inspiring and your painting and DVD totally changed my life, as I think I'd told you previously. - I've now done a massive 180 degree turn! There's no turning back now!......

Thankyou for looking at my painting. - I'll have to check to see what I've posted. I have quite a few WIPs, though they're not paintined in 'your' style, so I don't know if they count!

Keep up your wonderful work/play :)

Noni

Let me know if you do come down this way - I'm a trustee of a community gallery in Christchurch and would be able to organise a workshop for you.

Hi Richard, I haven't actually seen any of your work apart from a newspaper cutting of what looked like Sumner beach in Christchurch - which I kept - because I loved the picture, the colours and the reflections of the cliff on the wet sand. I was hoping you lived in the South Island so I could do some workshops with you.
I love painting landscapes, animals and traditional icons. I'm very much a detail artist but feel I need to become looser in my style. Tried doing a still life with a 1" brush, it was fun!
Glad to be part of your group. Jayne

Hi Richard, The south is a very inspiring place. I like some of Peter Beadle work. I like to work around the Desert Rd areas in the NI. Great place.

Hi Richard.
Going very well at the moment. Have had our visas extended to the full 3 year period for the LTBV. Studio also going well already have 12 students that come every week. Nolan and have been also selected to exhibit in the Kumeu Art in the Garden on 7-8 November 2009.
Exciting part is that Nolan and I are busy setting up video recording facilities for making training videos. In the testing stage at the moment. Will contact you later about it. I have not forgotten about you. Was going to contact you some time back and then saw that you and family were on vacation.
Still very busy setting up certain section of the studio apart from the teaching side. Giving an Abstract Art workshop this Saturday.
We were also in Christchurch with our daughter and fam. about the same as you were there giving workshops. Took lovely photos at Arthurs Pass and Lake Tekapo.
How is it your side?
