Gorgeous!
Hey Reid, thanks for your glowing reviews ... what an ego boost (much needed). When I say complementary colors I mean opposite on the colour wheel (you can pick one up at Michaels craft store for cheap). It seems all the pictures I really love, those with lots of drama have strong complementary colours (opposites on the colour wheel: orange is opposite of blue / red is opposite of green. Complementary colors when placed together intensify each other .... so when I saw this calendar photo I LOVED it -- blue and orange -- . The clouds I just dabbed and dabbed and kept adding paint till i was happy. I think it turned out pretty good. For the tree branches (the thin burnt orange ones) I used a tooth brush (dried the paint off then swiped it around - yes saw it on youtube) I think that painting is my favorite ... it looks the most "painterly" Happy painting.
Hi Catherine. Just peaking at your paintings and wow, you are on that level that I can only hope to get to. How int he world did you do these clouds? And the trees? Ah heck the snow too? Did you take a photo of this then paint it? When you say 2 comp colors, do you mean a few variations of blue and red or are they all mixed from only a couple? Probably a dumb question but hey, we're both from BC so you may be willing to cut me some slack.
Beautiful scene!
wonderful painting,really good.
Very nice! smiles : ))
Thank you Stu, your opinion means a lot to me. I tried to stick to just two (complimentary) colors in this one and it turned out better than I expected. Thanks for your comments.
Beautiful! I really like your composition as well.
