9 X 12 oil All our lakes in Arizona are low because of a 10 year draught. This small lake is in Williams, AZ, about 3 hours from where we live in the Mohave desert. Whenever we want to feel like we are back in the cool Northwest, we camp a few days in this town. I took pictures, hoping we could return to paint this scene. But thunderheads were coming in and we were forced to return home. I posted the photo also so please offer any plein air feedback you have. It feels like I'm improving!

Thank you Christine and Stu for sharing a little about your own painting journey. I feel encouraged. Okay Dor...I'll frame it :)

Linda, I could not have said that any better than Christine did and I agree with her completely.  Do frame it and enjoy it.   For years I have framed my paintings and hung them in my home.   I have paintings that I did over 50 years ago on the walls of my house, and believe me they wouldn't be in a gallery or a museum.   Some of them I could definitely paint better now, but not all of them.  It is all about the journey.   This is a really well done painting and you should be proud to show it off in your home.   Go for it!   Stu

Linda, I've had relatives that were very educated and talented artists. Some would discourage me saying, "oh those shouldn't be framed, they should just be considered practice!" Man, that hurt! This was when many years ago when I was having kids and setting up a home etc. I was excited to make things of my own. Personally, I think it's very wrong for others to discourage you like that.
I've also had something framed and on my wall, and gotten to a point where I learned enough, that I couldn't stand looking at the errors in it any more and had to take it down. Art is a constant learning process! There will always be a better painting if we keep growing, but that doesn't mean we can't enjoy the progress we've made. And I think it's wonderful that your husband supports your growth! It's a beautiful painting :) enjoy it!

Thanks Christine! My husband thinks I should frame it. Of course I keep thinking that someday I'll do better :)
