9 X 12 oil All our lakes in Arizona are low because of a 10 year draught. This small lake is in Williams, AZ, about 3 hours from where we live in the Mohave desert. Whenever we want to feel like we are back in the cool Northwest, we camp a few days in this town. I took pictures, hoping we could return to paint this scene. But thunderheads were coming in and we were forced to return home. I posted the photo also so please offer any plein air feedback you have. It feels like I'm improving!

Thank you Michael. Understanding the technical concepts and then remembering how to use them is something I'm working on. One of the main things that helped me on this painting was doing a good block in and then wiping out the light areas. I had a pretty good idea that the composition would work because the block in you taught us worked. So thank you!

Linda, this is pretty nice!!! .....You are beginning to understand some of the technical concepts of painting.  You have kept the pervasive light from your sky into the whole scene ..excellent ...that light ties everything together.  BTW, your sky is tremendous.  Well done ..proud of you ...keep up the good work.

Really like it a lot - it has 'emotion' and feels really believable. The water is lovely!

I see what you mean. The fear is that I would over saturate it and distract from moving into the scene but it is something I need to work on in future work. I like your painting a lot so I value your input.

No, i thought of the very foreground, the grass and sand. And, if a all just a touch more vivid there. The vivid foreground colors might further enhance the feeling of depth. You created a moody space with subtile grays. I imagine that could be quite easily be destroyed when you listen to wrong advice and/or overdo it ;-)

Thomas, do you mean the foreground mass of trees? I appreciate your comment.

Nice painting! I think some slightly higher saturation/variation of some greens in the foreground could further enhance the feeling of space. Love those grays in the background!
