Mannerrin brought up a comment about the color harmony I used on my painting, "A Captive Audience".  As Mannerrin pointed out, it is a double complimentary color scheme:  Violet/yellow, and…Continue

I think when an artist posts their ... whole ... portfolio at one time, it becomes quite overwhelming and I tend to just pass over them.

Hi everyone.  I just got word that Ken Auster passed away a few days ago.  A great artist and teacher, he will be missed.

Michael,

It appears that you have decided to move on from here.  Should you drop by sometime and look at you page, I would like to offer you a nice big THANK YOU.

I’ve only posted paintings on here occasionally (I’m a slow painter and at the lower end of the learning curve), but none the less, I have benefitted greatly from your input.  Your comments have always been constructive, insightful and incredibly helpful, and your paintings have been an inspiration.  I will always be indebted to you.

Your departure seems to have coincided with your shoulder operation.  I hope that went well, that you have fully recovered and that all is well with you.

Thanks for everything.

Hello Michael, thank you for your nice comment on my ink/wash of the old barn.  I do love doing old structures.  What tales they could tell if they could speak.  Chuck :)

I once again browsed your website and WOW!!!!  Such a delight!!!  There is no doubt about it, you are certainly a ‘MASTER’ Michael.   Your paintings are a delight to the eye and a huge inspiration to me, to many of us, if not all of us.  I envy those who live close enough to you, who know you and who can experience your tutor, your knowledge, as well as your friendship first hand.  You are certainly a very noble, generous man, who offers his time and knowledge freely.  Thank you Michael, you are a very precious GEM.

Thanks Michael.  I appreciate your help and copied it to my folder for review.  I was still trying to use up left over paint, but perhaps it is hurting me instead of letting me practice using it up?  (no telling how many times those piles have been combined?).  The sky being lighter......it is almost pure white now......so does that mean the distant mountains should be a bit darker to make the sky appear lighter?

Thank you Michael for your additional comments on my Evening Light revision.  I understand what you are telling me about the shadow receiving light from the sky and reflected light on things around it.  I will start to really "take note" of shadows and how /light/dark they are compared to other things.  Understanding what you should be seeing to know to look for are

"tricks in the bag".  Thank you for adding my knowledge.  Roena

Thank you Michael, I was hoping you would comment about my painting, Evening Light.  I copied it.  I understand what you are saying except about "watch those edges".  I tried to soften........where are the problem edges you are talking about.  Michael, I want to learn how to paint good landscapes.  They are much harder than still life where all I had to do was copy values, colors, etc.  For learning purposes would it be best to continue on with other new ones and try to remember about color temp, ect.........or should I completely try to repaint this one.  or should I just try to fix it?  What would be best for me to learn?  Thanks for your time which I know is very valuable.  Roena
