On one of my visits to Hawaii I took my 3 Granddaughters to the farthest north shore on Oahu. My Granddaughter snapped this picture of her sister viewing the Pacific Ocean. Because there are a lot of coral reef in this area there are no surfers. And the waves come in at different angles.

Linda, you are doing just fine!! .....just keep painting and painting. Copy a few of the current painters out there ....but not Richard .....because his palette is in tune with his New Zealand environment and then you would be out there painting our lakes and streams aqua marine!!! ...copy some Kathryn Stats, Jean LeGassick, Don Demers ...although his palette is a little east coast, Kathleen Dunphy, etc. Look up to see what professional artists live in your area ..take some workshops from them and study their work ...their palettes would be in tune to your area. Another painter you might want to copy a few works is ..Frank Serrano ..he has a very simplified palette.
I think the values are okay ..but ..you need to warm up everything that is being hit by the sunlight ...remember ..everything is influenced by the warm sunlight ....especially her flesh tones ...take a look at some of Sorolla's beach scenes ...note how warm the flesh tones are ...but also note ..the cool notes he infuses into them!!
Hey Linda ...My wife and I were at the North Shore, Oahu last year!!! Beautiful place!! Linda, I like your color harmony on this piece. A cool dominance with some warm for contrast ..very well done. To make your Granddaughter stand out more, put more warm flesh tones on her arms and legs. Also, get rid of the arms on the cast shadow. :))
