Thanks Jessica.  It really was a perfect day with the sun toplighting the clouds.   About 10AM and looking East from Marin County.   Stu

Just saw this one, Stu - it really caught my eye as it went past in the gallery because it's so beautiful.  It conveys such a feeling of tranquillity & soft beauty with the soft clouds floating gently by.

Thanks Gina.  Now I know who to contact before planning my trip.  Here's a link to a free demo painting that Johannes just did last Saturday to kick off his new series of paintalongs and sure enough he calls it "Sunset over Georgian Bay"; so here's your supplement to Richard's workshops and it shows you how Johannes paints skies; http://new.livestream.com/accounts/5486320/events/2408355  You won't be disappointed in any of his courses.   Stu

Hi Stuart! My goodness... you better plan that trip.  Be sure to add Goderich to your itinerary.  We have Niagara Falls for spectacular scenery, Theatre: Shakespeare in Stratford, George Bernard Shaw at Niagara-on-the-Lake. Toronto, of course, offers all sorts of stuff.  Our Art Galleries equal anything in New York.  At the moment the Art Gallery of Ontario is featuring a retrospective of Chinese dissident artist Wei Wei. The Royal Ontario Museum is a global treasure.  Of course, they aren't the MOMA or The Smithsonian but very respectable.  Do you know that work of the Canadian group, "the Group of 7"?  They painted in the 20's, 30's,40's, etc. Experimenting with this new approach they discovered in Paris.  Their interpretation of the Canadian landscape is marvelous. Tom Thompson in particular used strong wet on wet strokes to convey the ruggedness of the landscape. Hamilton also has a fine gallery.  It used to be the "steel" capital of Canada so it looks pretty grubby.  But there's big money there that funds all sorts of arts and sports. activities.  I could go on and on.  Of course, I have not travelled to California ... its in my bucket list though.  I looked up Johannes on my website and came up with past programs. I'll continue searching for his new course.

Cheers. Gina.

Thanks Silvana.  Gina, check out Johannes new course on oil painting basics and his ongoing paintalongs.   He is a terrific teacher.  One of these days I plan to go visit him in Hamilton; my Dad was born and raised in Hamilton and came to the US in college, and I have never, ever been to Ontario.  I have been to BC, Alberta and Quebec, but have always skipped Ontario.  Crazy, huh?  Stu

Hi Again, Stuart.  Thanks for the tips on painting reflections.  No I don't know Johannes Vloothuis.  Relatively speaking, he's practically next door ... only about 100 odd miles from me. (But that's nothing to us Canadians.  Its second nature to those of us in rural areas to drive quite a few miles to visit a good restaurant.)  I'll look up the" Essentials of Painting Water" right away.  Cheers. Gina.
