This circle lake surrounded by woods is in Williams, AZ Was planning on painting on site but weather didn't permit. Would appreciate feedback since I'm trying to learn to paint plein air so I've posted the photo also.

Thanks Michael!  Yes, it turned into a grey day and thunderheads were on their way.  Too bad the weather forced us to go home. I'm pleased that I'm learning how to come up with my own compositions...thanks to you and others!

Great job on the water Linda!!  You have captured the gray day atmosphere very well...congratulations on a very nice painting.  Think about Ann's suggestions, they are sound.

Hi Linda, I like the texture of the froward tree, the brushwork is energetic and the variety of color used is nice. The light on the branch tips adds to the scene and brings us back to the focal. The reflections are soft and nice. You might want to look at the reflection of the forward tree, it doesn't follow the form of the water and looks a bit messy, just smooth it out. The trees across the lake look to me like they are growing out of the water. A small light grey shoreline would help separate the trees from the water. Also the shore on the right is a warm color and on the left cool, the change of color could be more gradual or make it warm across to make the focal stronger. Just a few things to think about, nice plein air, good composition, lot of nice greens

Thanks Laura! I'm pleased with it more than I usually am and my painting is better than the photo. I knew I was painting a scene that didn't have as strong contrast as I like but I loved being at this little lake and had to try painting it.

Linda, I think this is a very nice painting! I like the atmospheric feeling and your loose brush work.
