Thank you for the comments Charles and Ana! This painting was quite a departure from the way I normally work.
Ana, I understand where you are coming from about the shadow side. Light isn't quite as simple as we are led to believe when we first start painting! In this particular scene, there is/was an amazing amount of ambient reflected light, a feeling I wanted to maintain. I do appreciate your comment, though, and I can see why that might be unsettling to a very literal, detail-oriented painter.
I like the dancing light on the footpath, the only thing I would do is the saturate more the shadow on the footpath as it comes in the foreground. And darken the tree trunks in the shady side.
I like your foreground hues and shadows.
