Oil on canvas panel, 9" by 12", plein air. This is a new place for me to paint and a new group of painters that I had painted with only once before. Lots of really interesting trees and buildings at this California State Park.

Thank you Stu, yes Michael is a wonderful artist and he is so helpful to me and others, I really love it when he gives himself time to critique my paintings. Happy painting Stu.

Thanks Steinunn. You might show your students Michael Severin's latest painting and his text on it. He has set his composition up like a still life with all the buildings and the horse trailer clustered together with 3/4 lighting and very soft and abstract background. I think that's the direction he's taking his plein air compositions most recently. Stu

I agree Stu, simplification is not so simple at all.  I am teaching some students to break up a form from a still life set up by the way of thinking of a diamond, yes, it was the only way for me to make them understand what I wanted from them and just seeing their faces light up was just great but that was not the answer with your question at all!

Yes, I have signed up but have not had to time to start yet.  Monet is one of my favorite artist, I love his way of painting.  It will be interesting to follow the progress, yes.  Happy painting Stu.

Yep! Thanks, it's not too bad a composition, but simplification is not my strongest painting skill! Still working on it though. I've got to sign up for Richard's current workshop, because I am intrigued by the thought of finishing an unfinished painting of Monet's and captivated by the strong Notan in the image posted by Richard. How about you; are you going to paint it?

We keep on learning Stu, I like it!

I think it is a little tilted and the perspective is off a bit as well. I should have picked something a little simpler to paint, but I got there late and was rushing; not enough time spent getting my sketch correct. Note to self: if you are in a rush, simplify!!!!
