Thanks Ann.   I deliberately looked around this site a lot for a good lead in to that mountain.   The road worked real well.   I needed some dark grays to really show off the aspens and the mountain mostly in shadow worked out real well with its purply blue gray hue.

This is my favorite painting of yours ! I think its the value contrasts and glowing light that make it my favorite. The composition is also outstanding

Laura, thanks a lot.   Silvana, there is great hiking in the Eastern Sierras.  I'm trying to get Frank Serrano to set up a week long painting trip with pack animals and real food into the high Sierras.   He says cost would be about $2000 for the trip.   Passes in this area are about 11,000 to 12,000 feet and the roads go up to about 9,000 to 10,000 feet.  Tree line is just above 10,000 feet and peaks are 13,000 to 13,500 feet.   Great fishing and backpacking.

Wow! All that is worth knowing!!! If I eever go to the US again, I''ll try to go to that area and attend a workshop!!! But I'll have a problem.... as I love hiking too....!!!! :) !!!

This workshop was only $250 for 3 days and well worth it.   There were 15 artists and the instructor would make the easel rounds a least 2 or 3 times each session (morning, afternoon, and an evening one day).   He also did a demo every day and illustrated some specific techniques periodically.   Most plein air workshops in the US are priced at between &75 and $125 per day.  Most involve some driving to get to locations.  For Michael it was a 4 hour drive; for Laura and I it was about 6 hours.   We all stayed in the same motel; Laura's husband Peter came along and went hiking and taking photos every day.

Tough work Stu! I haven't heard of those painting workshops around here. But I suppose that if they exist they'd be extremey expensive!

Thanks Silvana.   This was a very busy workshop with a fair amount of driving to these great locations.  We met up every morning at 8 AM and painted until 6 or 7 PM.   The instructor stayed on site two of the days and had someone bring him a sandwich.  He put a lot of energy into this class.  That made it pretty tough not to work real hard.   I got a lot out of this workshop.
