Thanks Tim, I felt I needed something interesting to draw the viewer's eye into the picture and a boat seemed perfect to me. The Pahootakawa flowers on the tree were another touch I added, but got from several of the New Zealand artists in the class. The Pahootakawa tree is called the New Zealand Christmas tree and flowers in December every year. And since it is the middle of their Summer holiday season in December, I can imagine someone in New Zealand out sailing then. These workshop competitions are a lot of fun. Stu
The sailboat is a really great touch
Thanks Sandra. Stu
Beautiful, Stu! Very nice atmosp perspective.
Thanks Dorian and Richard. This was harder to do than I thought it would be. Even though I was only changing about half of the surface area of the painting and very little of the basic value structure, I had to fix a few things where they were ok before to keep my color balance (clouds and foreground and distant water). This was a very useful learning experience for me. Best to not rush parts of a painting and just leave them partially done; the sharp eye (Richard) will see through it. I will be working on my bedrock style (daba daba doo!). Richard may be too young to have seen the Flintstones on TV or the funny papers. Stu
Very nice painting Stu. You have been a very busy fellow........smiles to you
Daba daba do! :-) Funny - haven't heard that one before. But yes I think it's certainly improved a lot - it's a richer painting now with a better sense of light - nicely done.
Thanks Diane. I would love to go sailing some day in those waters--very inviting. Stu
Nice painting Stuart Loving the foreground water and the movement of the boat. Would look good on anyones wall:)
