Michael, I will raise the mountains just a little and keep the green trees on it cool and light. Hope that works. I'm going to this spot to paint plein air tomorrow. At least it will give me good practice and then I can try it again when we get home...AFTER doing your demo!!!

Linda, I like this photo the best.  It will need to be cropped on the right side ..just past the orange grass.  Move the tree to the right a little.  You will need to do something with the mountains?  Those background trees are NOT the same value as the foreground tree ...do not let this photo fool you.  You will play up that yellow grass way in the background and let the sunlight sparkle there ..Where it comes from behind the dark foreground tree will be your focal point ..maybe?  The yellow grass in front of the foreground tree ..meander that forward so that it creates a lead in.  You have 4 value masses here:  Dark ..The foreground tree. Mid Dark .The distant trees.  Mid light ..The grass and blue sky, your light will be the sunlit clouds.  When you block this in ..do not paint every tree back there ...just paint a mass of average value and color.  Later on you will go back into that mass and punch in those light grasses so you have trees are specially separated. Note the gradation in the sky and the gradation in the green grass ..it is a little darker over here in the corner ..play that up.  Hey, your supposed to be doing the demo!!??
