16 x 20 oil --looking for critiques - I've left the foreground rough - used a palette knife for texture...wondering about that and about the skin tones--tried to keep her in sunlight,, thus light, but I don't know if she looks washed out? I've wanted to paint this for quite some time and was inspired by workshop 42

Beautifully done!!
It's great Lori, and I still think you should tag it for this month's workshop....
Great painting Lori!
Beautiful painting. Yes, I agree, she should smile a bit more, but overall you did an excellent job!
The child expression is a sort of too serious comapred to the original photo. I would add the sweet smile and a bit of color in the cheeks. Olso, the eyes should be just dark shadows no color in. These will bring back the child typical face. Otherwise this is a wonderful family portrait to be framed. Why not tag it Workshop42?! Congratulations!
heavens no Thomas!! I can only grow from honest appraisals of my work!! you gave me food for thought which I appreciate!! I am happy with the painting overall..though I did just glaze in a little rosiness!! I've been looking at this photo since September and feeling intimidated to paint it. I think I'm finding my 'groove'! lol
Thank you Silvana! I'm thinking I don't have enough "bright" in the foreground to make this a workshop 42 entry, though I was inspired to paint after watching it. In looking at my source, I think the sun must have been directly overhead? Maybe I'll try a smaller version and really exaggerate the light & add those shadows. For this one, I think I'm going to take the advice from& leave it (or maybe just glaze in a little more warmth to her face?)! lol..when is enough wnough?!!!
