oil on textured panel, 11" by 14", plein air. Painting out at Loch Lomand Marina in San Rafael with Laura Xu and Saturday plein air group. Nice hot afternoon. By the time we finished the tide had gone out and most of the water in this salt water marsh was gone, exposing the mud flats. There is extensive work coming up on the marshlands around this harbor to put in more costal trail and restore the wetlands. Lots of shorebirds and migratory birds along here.

Ian, yes every place has some difference in the greens.  Thanks for your comments.   Stu

Thanks Olivia; I missed your post earlier.   I am not as afraid of thalo green as I used to be.  It's just got to be used like Brylcream.   This was a 1950s (I'm dating myself here) men's hair product ("greasy kid's stuff") that had a little jingle that was sung in the advertisement on the radio and TV.   The jingle went like this: "Brylcream...a little dab will do you, Brylcream, you'll look so debonair.....etc."   Well that's exactly what the thalos (blue and green) need; just a little dab, because anymore and it will do you in!  Stu

Thanks Ann. I think that a lot of this is due to the addition of thalo green to my palette; but I have definitely been pumping up the color. I pretty sure that I won't make the reception in Gilroy on Sunday; I am going to a show opening gala for my good friend (and Marin Open Studios fellow Board Member), Kay Carlsonat the Mondavi winery in Napa that afternoon and I don't think I can do both, due to the distance. I think Marianne wants us to keep our paintings there until the show closes next month, but if she wants them picked up, can you please take mine with you, and I'll figure out how to pick it up from you later? Wish you were going with Laura, Micael and me to our Frank Seranno workshop next month. Laura is sure a painting machine; her work is improving by leaps and bounds. I also wish you would come up some Saturday to Marin. Stu

I hope to see you at the artist reception on Sunday in Gilroy. Do they want us to take our paintings or leave them until the end of the month ?

Thanks Jessica. I'm deliberately putting a lot more color in my foreground mid values. But I really like the thalo green for mixing blacks with alizarin and cool greens and yellows with cad yellow light. Against these cool greens and yellows the warm greens and yellows really seem to brighten. I was using a lot more grays. I'm sticking with this palette the next month until after my Fall Sierra workshop. Stu
