oil on canvas, 18" by 24". This is the every Sunday farmers' market at the Marin Civic Center. The colorful orange shapes caught my eye along with the man in the foreground tasting the produce.

Li, I painted this 3 years ago. It took me about 12 hours to complete. Thank you for the compliments. Stu

Stuart, this is stunning!!   My husband said that is incredible. So many things you have to concern, the relashionship of those shapes , values, colours, perspectives , and  you did it so well up to those detailes. You do make those orange umbrellas an interest center. No only that,  you make them dramaticly dominated the composition by their shapes, colours and size. That man in the foreground seems very content what he is tasting. So real!!!  What an effort!   How long this one take you to finish? Definitely, this is another master piece of you.

No, but I would have if I had not been taking the photo. The woman on the far right with the red top is my wife Cindy. She lets me paint her into photos as long as no one can recognize her clearly. I have found it interesting to take along my little 12 megapixel Samsung point and shoot camera and snap photos in crowded public areas and use the interesting ones to paint from. So, she's shopping and I'm getting photo reference material. But when it comes to tasting and eating, I participate fully. I shot my reference photos for "Have Some Grapes" in the plaza next to the Asian Art Museum in S.F. while my wife and daughter and my daughter's family were waiting in line to get into the museum. It would be almost impossible to set up an easel and paint in crowds like this. I really am attracted to the colorful shapes made by the umbrellas and the interesting and colorful outfits people wear. Thanks for your comments. Stu

Stu your style of urban street scenes is exceptional and very beautiful. Your love of detail shines in this work. I spent the weekend in SF it was rainy but beautiful.

Thanks Dania and Dirk. Dania, I'll check out that artist. This kind of painting is really my favorite to paint. I still struggle a little with the figures, but actually most of them are massed together and can be quite loosely laid in. Stu
