oil on linen panel, 11" by 14", plein air. I painted this on the 5th and last day at the Plein Air Convention in Monterey about 10 days ago. This was a bit complicated and while I was just blocking in the painting, one of the field instructors, Lynn Gertenbach from Calabasas, CA, came over and gave me some incredibly valuable coaching. I was very pleased with the outcome. I painted 9 paintings in 5 days as well as attending educational sessions every day but the last. The field instructors were terrific help and the weather was very cooperative. Next year the convention will be in Tucson, AZ.

Thank you very much Manneherrin; I love your comments. Yes I painted this in midday and I the sun was high on the right. That covered boat was a foil for my color and detail and I did deliberately pop those warm reds on the umbrellas up on the deck. I had lunch up there a couple of days before. I had some help from one of the field instructors, Lynn Gertenbach, earl in the block in of the painting. I will definitely buy her new Plein air video.

light airy and loose. I like the striking orange you put on there next to the saturated blue and in the cone of vision. I love these little nuances you put in your paintings. Which direction is the light coming from? Im guessing this was a noon painting?
