oil on canvas panel 11" by 14" plein air. After helpful input from Michael Severin, Olivia O,Carra and Jon Main; I cleaned up my treetops and integrated the foreground with the trees by putting some green in the grass. It only takes an inch or so of rain to get the green grass back and it's raining pretty good today--badly needed in N. CA because we have been in a drought for 2 years.

Thanks Dor.  The first time I ever painted there was 10 days ago.  I have a bunch of reference photos and will probably paint something else from the 300 degree view up there and go back up there to paint plein air again in the next few months.  There are some stunning vistas where I live and it's hard to paint them all.   Stu

Thanks Ann. No fun to paint when there's wind. Laura and I were up painting Fall color in the Eastern Sierra's 3 weeks ago painting with Michael Severin in Frank Seranno's workshop. We painted in some beautiful places. Laura and Peter took a whole bunch of photos and then went on a Southwest tour and took even more. I'm sure she will be painting from those photos real soon. Stu

I didn't see the first one Stu but I like the interesting shapes and composition. Also nice use of darks, they make the light on the path and rocks shine. I just returned from a week in the Carson valley and Lake Tahoe. The beauty of fall was amazing ! I painted one plain air and another that I started but the wind was nuisance so I had to stop and chase my hat then grab my easel etc. Will finish and post this week when possible.

Thanks Laura. I'm going to enter this one and the other painting I posted today ("Between Storms") in a juried show at the same place I'm having my single artist show. I really felt good doing the other painting. It's very high key and has little color but real simple shapes. I didn't have to do anything but sign it in the studio. Interesting meeting Bryan Mark Taylor today. Stu
