Hi Robin. The only problem with your beautiful painting is that you overworked it in the background ..that's all! ..painting it looser has nothing to do with it ...actually, it looks very loose now. :) do you have a reference photo? If you do, I can better help you resolve that cliff on the right.
Hi Robin, a very beautiful painting! ..your composition is excellent and your value arrangement looks good to me. I do agree with Fay and Olivia about the cliffs ....the background cliff is too busy and you have "fractured" its value structure with all those high value marks. Simplify that area with a few warms of the same value and leave it. The cliff on the right is also kind of busy with all the little grooves ..simplify ...use a gradation from right to left by indicating the right side might be in shadow ..a possible technique to simplify that cliff?
So beautifully done Robin, love the light and water!!
A very lovely painting Robin. The only thing I would perhaps change are the markings on the distant blue cliff - I'm thinking there may be a few too many as they take my attention. I hesitate to give advice so hope this is helpful. You've done a wonderful job.
This is a great painting Robin. I love it especially the water.
If you really want criticism I might have lightened the blue at the back as it went around the corner a little bit and the cliff on the right doesnt read as well to me as the rest.
But listen its only a personal thing and I hesitate to say anything about such a lovely painting.
Thank you Laura - I felt I overworked this with so many concepts and new knowledge going on. I would welcome some "honest" criticism.
Wow... this is amazing Robin!
