Oil on canvas panel 11" by 14" A lot more detail in this layer. A few tweaks, refinements, uncloning of some shapes and details yet to go to finalize paintings. Any tips, suggestions and comments are welcome.

Casey, I think you are right about too much detail away from the focal point; actually I did a little of this after I took my photo of the last layer and will do a little more of it with my final touches. The reference is from a landscape reference photo set from Canadian online teaching artist Johannes Vloothuis (www.improvemypaintings.com); this set of photo references includes 700 photos from all over North America for US$19.95. Stay tuned for my final painting. Thanks. Stu

Hi Stu,

I like what you've done so far.  I'm wondering if the final painting wouldn't benefit by losing some detail away from your focal point. Wonderful sense of depth - you really feel the immensity of the canyon.  Is this from a personal photo?

Debbie, I have all lost and soft edges except the focal point rocks. This makes it look out of focus. I need to clean up some of my cloned rocks and sharpen some edges around my focal point. So, one more layer and I am done. Stu

Stu, i don't know if its the photograph or the computer or what but the painting always looks blurry, hard on the eyes. colour, tones and design are good, looks very realistic. no 4 is the best view. have you finished it or is there another layer?
