Hello Sharon, Scratch art I guess has been around in one form or another for quite sometime, but I was only made aware of it the end of Sept this past year. We were on a 3 week trip to the UK, two weeks guided tour, one week on our own in a rental car. Met an artist I had met on one of these art sites and she introduced me to scratch art. You start with a piece of 1/8th inch masonite that has a layer of white clay applied and then a layer of India ink over the white clay. Using sharp tools you scratch away (etch) the black exposing the white. You develop the picture with various scratches. I apply a light wash of watercolor and then scratch again and repeat until I achieve what I want. Usually 3-4 scratches and 2-3 w/c washes. Last scratch puts in the highlights. I did a a 3 e-mail series of various steps, from first scratch to finished work. I would be happy to send to you if you are interested.. It's not a fast process, but the results can be quite dramatic. I am now doing Pet Portraits in two sizes. Having a grand time.. Chuck :) XX
Hi Sharon, I guess you mean February because workshop 39 is what is going on now in January. There will be two more Italian based workshops then I'll change to something different .
Thank you very much Sharon, for accepting my invitation! No my profile picture is not a picture of me, all though is so close as when I was a child even the scarf, it is a copy I made after one of the Romanian master, Nicolae Grigorescu. A friend of mine commissioned it about eight years ago. Thank you again for accepting my friendship and for asking. Cheers, Ana
Thank you so much Sharon for taking the time to look at my paintings and making a lovely comment. I'm pleased that you like the boats and trees - I'm working on getting better at both of those! It's all a challenge, but I love it!! One of the things that I find interesting on this site is that a lot of people paint their surroundings. So it's sometimes like a bit of a travel journey as well. Plus it's always interesting to hear about and see the cold and the snow whereas I'm usually sweltering in the heat, and it certainly never snows where I live.
That is so nice of you to say..thank you. I am finding out that this is just who I am even though I struggle to tighten up my art. I get very emotional when I paint ...find myself talking to myself and to the art itself. I hope I am not the only one who does this !!
Sharon, so nice of you. by a mistake, I sent you a comment which I should send to Vida. I just found out to click that x I could delite it. I did it just now. Thank you so much for your help.
Sharon, Thank you for your approval about my work for the W28. I will keep on good work. By the way, I am sorry, I put a comment on your page by mistake and do not know how to delete it.
