Hello folks and fellow artists I am living over here in Galway Ireland and returning to Brisbane Australia in May 2012. I paint in oils mainly as I find them more satisfying. For years I have been searching to find myself in paintings. I have painted in so many subject ways with each work being entirely different I.E  landscapes portaits, photo realism, pallet knife empatso, all kinds but at last now that I have retired and can spend time on researching and pushing more paint around. I have discovered two great tutors. Robert Hagan (Aussie) and Richard Robinson (Kiwi) through them I have found my eventual painting style, and am looking forward to creating a professional portfolio of painting to sell and re finance this wonderful medium. If any fellow Aussie would care to meet up later this year I would love to see you cheers John Regan

Hi John Regan.  If all has gone to plan you'd now be in Oz again.  Hope you're still painting up a storm and enjoying every minute.  I'm down at Quirindi.  I've used oil on acrylic to advantage and did one oil portrait of a nude man with guitar.  That caused quite a stir in a small country town and lots of rumours no doubt.  I couldn't really understand why people didn't comment on the guitar!  I found that extremely time consuming to paint...  I worked from photo's.  No one sits around too long these days do they?  If the old masters had TV we wouldn't have any masterpieces!!!

Anyway, welcome.  :D

Hi Annie and a happy new year to you. Yes I am back in Brisbane (Stafford) and getting into my painting with a relish.

I have been working on a couple of western scenes (Cowboys and horses) in oils and on a fairly large canvas. I have found this very satisfying.I too work with photos but only to help tell the story on the canvas. Hope to meet you some day and keep up the good works. Don't worry about what people feel about your nude with guitar! after all he could have been holding something else eh!! ha cheers John

Thanks for the encouragement.  Actually he could have been holding the whiskey glass (that was another of his props... ahem).

Cowboys and horses... sounds very impressive.  It's always best to show off when you can!

Anyway, if you're ever down around Tamworth let me know.

Annie  :D
