Have seen a few queries on the above.

This may be of assistance to others out there, as I also wondered on this and upon researching sites, decided upon a very simple solution, as well as extremely inexpensive, which we all do love.

==

Firstly...

went to a stationery shop, asking for certain size cardboard box.  Wished to have one that was around 6-8 inches in depth and sort of square/landscape shape.  Found box which had held  the trays for a desk, those that site on top of one another on the desk with little 'legs' in corners holding top one over the other.   Ideal size.  Lovely shop staff did not have any opened, but opened up one specially for me so I could have the box. Nice people.

Secondly ...

Then bought 2 large sheets of white foam board (lucky as was on special).
Cut the foam-board into 4 to the same dimensions as the box making them a little smaller on each side, so would fit and slide into box easily.
Then cut up some bits of polystyrene and glued these on each corner as well as bottom of the foamboard sheets, having the one on the bottom cut longer to go along bottom of boards, giving boards a bit more strength.    These polystyrene corners and bottom stuck on the foam boards hold each board away from the back of the other board, so paintings stay perfect and do not rub or get damaged on each other and all fit easily into the box and keep work safe.

Thirdly ...

So... having done the above, in order to work easily and not take up too much room when I get home, decided to work on cut canvas to the dimensions which would, if I wished, then fit into pre-made frames. Otherwise will end up with so many stretched canvases or boards, will not have anywhere to store them.  This way, canvases when dry can all be placed on top of one another, taking up no space at all.
Canvases are placed on a very large board (similar to Richards wkshp28 'idea from me' on day out?) and masking tape placed around all edges of canvas holding onto board.  This is done so that when painting is completed and tape is pulled off there is approx a 1" or 1 1/2" white border around the work, making it look really nice.
If it turns out good and like it, then it will be able to be placed into a frame due to being cut to the right measurements, with the  1" or 1 1/2: boarder on it.

In case you wonder why not just use the solid board instead of foam board, and then store that into the box  find wld be too heavy and lifting box with 4 in them is awkward, plus wear and tear on box.  So just transfer wet painting with same masking tape on it, from the board onto the foam board and put inside box.  Nice and light and easily manageable

Easy, easy and easy.
Advantage of this is that the box can be stood up behind front seats and takes up no room at all or can be layed flat on top of things - even things on top of that.

Hope of some use, and also understandable.    Cheapest and easiest.
