Lyndia, as I understand you did this all on your own prior to any training. Goodness girl you are very good! You have achieved almost perfect eyes that have the correct shadow and lower lid to place the eyeball inside the eye lids. Your upper lip is in shadow and the lower lip has a highlight. The chin turns under. The neck goes inside the colar. Your features are good, and your wispy, thin hair is outstanding. I think you might enjoy looking at Darrel Tanks work. Go look at the 2 balls in my gallery. Those are my attempts to learn his "tapered strokes". He has some free art lessons that give some nice hints using graphite to do portraits. Of course he has some courses you can buy if interested, but take all the free stuff you can get and then decide if you are interested to move on to more.

http://www.fivepencilmethod.com/ He teaches using only 5 pencils. I am impressed with his process, however I only did his free lessons. I am really not interested in drawing people as I want to be a landscape artist. Focus Ro! I can get so sidetracked so fast! Ro

Hi Roena and Peter, thank you for your comments, that's really very nice coming from actual artists.
After this drawing I attended a 2 hr a week art lesson for 10 sessions which introduced me to painting, found I loved it. I am so keen but don't really know where to begin to find out my painting style, at the moment these were just images from books I liked.
Roena, I would be keen to give it a go, not really sure. It's all fun what ever the medium.
Mmm sandbagging, had to look this one up:-) Can't sandbag, these are my first 5 paintings, I've painted a bird, but not quite sure about it yet. I've seen both of your paintings and they are all incredible!!

What is a good word? Amazing and excellent are pretty good. This might be the first sketch of your little girl, but what other training did you have? I want to comment more, but I would like to hear back from you first. I think this is really, really good! Are you interested in drawing very realistic portraits of people? Ro
