Thanks Rita.Your work is very good especially the flowers.  I try so hard to paint flowers and they look terrible, lol. The one think I am trying to work on now with my portraits is to cut back on some of my color.  It is a hard thing to do since I love color so much but I know my portraits would look better less intense. Your drawings are fabulous.  You should definitely try again.

This is really good, I love the details in the lace, her eyes and the hair is just perfect, well done!! I only painted a portrait ones, and I messed up. So now I only draw portraits, but maybe I'll should give it a second try, I have a few beautiful photo's of my two grandchildren.

Yep, I thought that I was loving your portraits in the past! I also see that Chris Roughton commented. She is a lovely person and I love her paintings. She certainly does what I cannot! This is so sweet.

Your portraits are lovely. One of my best friends is headed to your city for Thanksgiving. Have a nice one.

Melanie this is just glorious. I love the detail on the collar and the expression is so sweet.

Thanks Kim.  I gave them another option of an abstract outside background that had some more browns blues and sap greens and olive greens but it was a 'no'.  On this background I took a chance and added the blue on the right side because that side and that eye is the focal point and I wanted to draw attention to it.  Maybe you are right that they were thinking the green would draw more attention to the green eye  but I think it just hides it even more. However, the eye does show up better in the painting than it does in this picture.

I just read an article about that topic just the other day.  It stated that many commissioned projects the person wanting the job also often wants some type of control over the project. So we can choose to do it their way or let them take it somewhere else.  Many well known artist would tell them no.  I need the money.  There are some things that I have done in the past that I would say "no" to today just because they do not represent the art that I want to put my signature on.

Concerning the grandparents and the background color.........I wonder why someone has enough faith in an artist that they are willing to PAY you to do your job, and then try to tell you how to do it?  LOL  Ro

Thank You Kim and Lyndon.  Yes,  this was a commissioned portrait due as a Christmas present from the grandparents to the parents of the child.  As for the background, it was the request of the grandparents and believe me I tried to talk them out of it.  I tried to talk them into a pretty slate blue but they would not hear of anything but the army green.

What a beautiful painting of a lovely young girl, Melanie.... it doesn't matter what color her eyes are she's goregous!

I 'm not quite sure about the background color though is it maybe a little adult for her?
