8x10 inches.
Oil on board.

" Copper Kettle and Plums "

I am not really happy with this one for a few reasons. This is not a great photograph. I could not get the lighting right. The table is a softer naples yellow and burnt umber.

Learning Points:
1. oil on sanded board. This is the second one of these I have done. It is pastel board by Ampersand. It says you can use it for oil. It is very very interesting to work with. It is very absorbent, and best to use stiff brushes with.
2. not sure how to make the bottom of that copper pot look right. It was not casting a shadow as it sits flat against the table, but look to me like it needs something, some kind of shadow under it, but I could not make it look right
3. dark fruit, how to paint it without it looking like a black hole...I used the reflection from the table and made it more pronounced...so I just painted the darks darker and the lights lighter than what I was seeing. The high contrast on the plums made a great difference.
4. copper..I have painted copper before, but still can't quiet figure what colors look best
5. brass...again, color mixing, there is some green in the shadows which I think works

I am going to do another one of these in the next day or two

Thank Sharon, yeah there are a few things bugging me on this one too, and I am going to work on it a little more today.  Thanks for the critique, I was getting cross eyed!  I hope your wrist is better soon!  Thanks Lisa for the compliment!

Looks wonderful to me!  But if you want a critique...the only thing that bothers me is the spout and the bottom kettle near highlight.  The bottom rim looks thicker there where the highlight is.  And, I'm not sure if you should put a highlight in the black plum reflection on the kettle.  A little too much red on the reflection of the red plum.  Wow... though, I need to do some of these, great learning!  Problem with me, my wrist is sore from shoveling, may have pulled a ligament, or too much painting!  :(
