Hazy Morning Beach Access

16x20 inches
Oil on Canvas

Learning Points

1. Simple composition. I thought when starting this one, big shapes, easier to do that what I have been working on. Not so, unless I was going for an abstract.

2. How to keep you from falling off the painting. The path gets smaller at the top and pulls you into the painting, but without darkening the bottom, you would just fall off the bottom when looking and not want to come back in.

3. Sun and water reflection. Getting the contrast was tricky. Especially the sun in the sky which was the lightest areal. The center circle is white with a little bit of orange, then a ring of the blue sky (its compliment) and then another ring of the white with orange and blended into the sky. It was the only way I could get that little bit of center/sun peeking through to show and give the effect of fog/haze.

4. Details. I used a white sable liner brush with glazing medium for those little grasses
