Thanks, Roena.  These are very helpful comments.  I think it's a really good idea to break the dark shadow on the river . . . very useful. Thank you all!

I can see some "infused light" breaking across the top of the grass in the closest foreground and on the distant bushes closest to the sun..........sorta leads your eye across that area.  Can you check your reference and see if perhaps that same "infused light" would break across the dark shadow across the river that all but stops the eye from going on and into the painting?    PS.....I just read Michael's solution to the area I was talking about, the dark line.

I really do like your colors and the sky around the sun area all the way up to the higher clouds.  Very pretty painting!

Thank you for such helpful comments, guys!  If I get time before the end of the workshop, I'll try some of these pointers and re-post.  Thank you - I genuinely appreciate such great constructive comments from fellow artists.

This is really nice!  I love those trees in the background!

I like your loose style. I guess that I shouldn't have made you try to figure out what I think needs comment. I asked if it was finished because some artists are open for comments and some would not like them. So I'll go for it, the sky has nice energy witty those loose paint strokes. The middle of your painting has calm horizontal painting and the bottom 1/3 has horizontal stripes. I would like to see these 3 areas tied in together with maybe more energy and looseness in all of the painting. Your colors are bright and compliment each other. The trees with light halo repeats the energy in the sky. The distant trees take the viewer in nicely, a lead in for the eye would help the viewer in the foreground to enter the painting. Now I'm thinking that you may have deliberately placed bands of active painting in some areas and calm strokes in others to give the eye a rest or to add variety. Is that possible ?
