Thank you Sharon. :-)
Wow, so realistic! Love the light on the rocks and teh wave is awesome, looks like a photograph!
Caroline I'm really flattered by your request, as I'm just learning how to paint. This is only my fourth workshop! So I truthfully can tell you I really have no idea what I'm doing yet. But I'll try to explain the best I can what the process was. I started this before the video was released so I used Richards second painting as a guide for the waves. I started with a almost completely phallo blue mixed with white background (you can see a bit of it in the calm section between the two waves.) Then blocked in my lightest lights and darkest darks. The two tips I did learn while painting this was to paint the wave and water colors in first (using phallo blue, titanium white and some cadmium yellow light )putting the highlights in light blue and THEN attempt the stronger highlights. Secondly I learned never use pure white always mix it with something (I used a tad of cadmium yellow light and/or raw sienna for the light on the wave) and when you do, do it sparingly, step back and make sure its right then adjust accordingly. I even turned the painting upside down at one point thanks to a suggestion from Stu in my first workshop. That helped give me an idea if It was balanced out right. Not sure if this is the right way but as I said I'm learning. I hope that this was helpful!
Thank you Barbara.
I would be interested, Jess, if you walked us through the process on how you painted the water and splash....just a thought :)
You have created a beautiful atmosphere as well as a beautiful painting. I especially love the contrast of the highlights and shadows in the rocks and the wave splash. There seems to be a unity of color throughtout the painting that makes it feel 'right' and warm highlights and cool shadows. It would be great if Richard picked this to critique as I am very interested in finding out what makes this all work so well. Congratulations.
Thank you so much Caroline and Linda.
very dramatic --good job
I do love the way you rendered the water, very translucent, free and light....I couldn't quite get that look, but that is what I was going for....:)
Wow, thank you all so much! I have to admit I'm a bit overwhelmed at the response. I really really appreciate all your kind comments. Just the encouragement I needed.
