I have painted another since this that had a defined horizon and headland in the distance, this one was done more for fun and experimenting with an almost an abstract look. In the end I liked both but have to admit to prefering the second painting with the horizon, how ever it is always good to have a bit of fun and a play around sometimes and experiment.

As a past sail boat racer (we had a Catalina 25) I have looked at this beautiful, colorful painting thinking, "I like it, but something is unusual?"  There are bow ripples on some of the boats and a slight bit of a wake.  The entire scene looks too calm.  Exciting races are with a lot of wind and a lot of wripples in the water......not smooth water.  I have read in dingy racing they go faster when sailing as flat as possible, but this lacks some action in the water.  They appear to be drifing along, and not in a hot and heavy race.  So, for the next painting you might consider messing up the water some more for excitement and action.  he he  Ro

WOW! This is fantastic! I love the reflection and all the bright colors. Who said Acrylic was a poor cousin to Oil?
