Thx, Charles. I lay out the basic shapes first, then middle tones and light and dark details. I also did washes. The roots were created by adding the shadows and the small braches were later details. I use negative space painting lots. It's fun for me discovering the details that way.

In your process, do you create an under drawing first to lay out the detail.  Remarkable value and color control.  Well done.
