Hey, I just thought, I'd throw in my 2 cents.  I admire this work very much. I can't say that I identify with it, but Candi and Joseph, there are many many people out there who love this kind of detail.  If you love details, please don't stop!  We are all different personalities with different styles.  I think instead of being more "painterly" think of being more YOU!  What feels more true to the scene for you?  It's a compliment that we can see the artist is an engineer!

Thanks for the 2nd shot! Sure does make a difference!  Your palm tree, I think, is amazing!     Will be watching for your work!

It looks a whole lot more like a painting in real life. The actual painting is 30" high so when you shrink it down to 6" on the screen you lose all the brush strokes. This an actual sized close up of the grass and shrubs. When I got to the palm fronds, I simply could not stop without putting them all in. Thanks for your comments. I do like doing things realistically though.

Hi Joseph!  Read your bio, I'm retired from an engineering company,United Technologies (at least that's what it was when I was there) but not an engineer.  I can see the engineer in your painting!  I'm stuck on detail too, but not as good at it as you are!  I love the sky, and the palm and shadow are OMG beautiful!  I'm just wondering if you had not done the foreground (grass and garden) so formal, you'd feel like you had a more painterly feel?  I'd like to get more input on how I can get a little more painterly, so please don't take this as any kind of insult, I think your work is fantastic!  I'm just kind of identifying with your style (on a lesser degree of course).
