Thanks Richard, that is a very good tip. I do use that mix to darken a lot of others colors as well. I will give it a try. I really appreciate you commenting!

That makes a very neutral black and transparent oxide is a strong colour that tends to overpower others, so you've got very black shadows and muddy grey colours elsewhere. Try using ultramarine and cad red mid, or even burnt sienna.
Try to not rely on that dark mixture to darken your other mixtures - eg, you can darken red with alizarine crimson or blue, or green. Eg. You can darken yellow with yellow ochre, red + blue, or burnt sienna. Eg. You can darken green with red or blue.
No, I didn't have black. I use ultramarine blue and transparent oxide to get the dark. Is it too dark?
