We did this value study just in Ivory Black and Flake White at the Angel's Academy in Florence as preparation for full-colour painting (Sylvia and Vanessa). It is on unstretched canvas but unfortunately, the whole piece did not fit into the scanner.

This was a workshop with Maestro himself; another one is conducted this year: http://www.angelartschool.com/workshop3_2012.html It was a mixed class of about 15 people of which 2 or 3 were beginners who never painted a figure. They still produced very impressive paintings. The difference was in speed: the most experienced artists (2 or 3 were professional artists in the sense that selling their artwork was their main source of income) produces two B&W studies and two full colour paintings in two weeks. Beginners produced one B&W study and one painting. Some managed o start the second one but did not have time to finish it. I has the impression that the majority of participants were however hobbyist with lots of money and free time who do not need to work. Some of them took part for third or fourth time!
Mixed class. Sorry about the spelling.
Tell me about it. Sergei, when you attended class at the academy...was it a missed class with beginners and advanced students? How big where the classes?
Alas, I could afford only a summer workshop, not the full course. But even so I learned more in two weeks than in previous two years. It's a constant conflict. One has to work to earn money for studying painting but has not much time to do painting itself as a result.
Nice study Sergei. Wow,Angel's Academy! I wish i had the time and money to go there to study.
