Thank you for all the comments, I really appreciate the feedback, great for learning!  Thank you.  And Betsy, I have some of E. J Robinson's books, aren't they great?

Happy painting everyone.

Hi, Laurena,

I like your painting. l like the way the water comes onto the shore, especially. I can feel the froth.

If you are into seascapes and waves, you might want to check out some books by E. John Robinson. See if they are at your library or get them inexpensively at Amazon. He was an expert in this subject and you might enjoy reading some of his tips, tricks and techniques. There's some cheap DVD's he made on sale on E-BAY from time to time, too. You might also check out a prior workshop we had on this site where we learned Richard Robinson's method for painting rocks. I think between those two things, you could really take this painting to the next level. I, myself, have a seascape/wave painting on my bucket list of things I have to learn to paint. I was in California recently and did some small sketches and took a number of pictures of the coast between Stewarts Point and Mendocino. What a spectacular place! I never tire of going there and driving the coast highway.

Anyway, Keep up the good work! You've reminded me of my to-do list.... ;-)

I love the way you have tackled the breaking foam off the wave Really great.

I have looked several times at your painting and not sure how you feel but my eye keeps going to the part of the wave to the right of the white break. Is this too straight up and down, could it be improved with a little curve like you have on the left?? Also a little more vairiation of shape of your rocks. They are a little too coffee bean shape especially the three in a row centre. Now all this doesn't mean I don't think this is a very lovely painting:)

Nice, but also just a little bit of the blue of the sky/water into the highlights of the rocks(same value, though) will help pull it all together, too.

Ahhh, I could not figure out what was bugging me.  Thank you!

Great job on that wave. Maybe some softening and lost edges between rocks and blue wave would further enhance the feeling of realism?
