Original Oil Painting by Jeri McDonald. 16x20 canvas. Commission. This is by far, my favorite of all my work. My goal was to find the perfect color palette that has been in my mind while experimenting for the last 2 years! The light has come on! I am now where I want to be in subject matter, value(s) and color schemes. California coastal images, palm trees, Pride of Madeira (purple flowers) that grows on the coast, and the endless beauty here, has inspired me to want to capture it in my work.

Hey thanks Silvana! Your are so nice to comment on this one for me. I am so proud of this one. I had the most fun and enjoyment of all 50 paintings I have done this last couple of years! It looks much better in real life than I could photograph it. My next one will experiment with more texture and I want to soften the distance colors a bit more to see if I can bring more attention to the foreground. I started out that way but once you get so far in a painting, you see where you could have done something a little different because of relationships of each color and value etc. next to each other as Richard says. This, to me, is the hardest part of painting since you have to almost paint the whole thing to see it and then go back but I don't like to go back. Afraid I might mess it up!

Great Jeri! I am really happy for you! Those flowers are superb, and the sea's colour too!
