12x16 oil on panel Tried to incorporate recommended changes. I increased overlapping shapes, changed exit point from center to left, increased golden trees on the left for balance, modified value by darkening front plane. Dark to light/ Front to back, added horizontal shapes to off set dominant horizontal. I tried to emulate Thomas by loose vertical foreground strokes. And its also overworked so the cows on the left ran away ;)

Ann, this must be a late afternoon. Lowe tone and highly harmonized colour combination. It gives people a warm feelings with a very natural contrast of blue grey mountains at the distance. A fine and beautiful piece.
Really like the changes you've made, Ann - it's made the painting so much more interesting. I especially like the distant golden trees right under the mountains, leading the eye back. The vertical bush you've added in the front corner really helps make that section interesting & points us into the painting in a lovely way.
Thank you for your comments and support Joy, Laura and Ian. To answer your question Joy, this is a valley at the base of the Sierra Mt. It is an area of hot springs and water seeps up thru the ground to provide a bird habitat and grass for grazing. The golden cotton wood trees are on the river bank of the almost dry Carson river. On the other side of the river the area quickly becomes desert with clay/rock grey hills that very little grows on, so they appear to be bluish grey in the not too far distance. The beauty of the area is this combination of golden and blue sky and hills. One of the few places in Nevada that is beautiful.
Ann, this is very effective fix. I love the land very much!
